Abstract

The failure of Tuberculosis treatment entirely is still widely reported to date. The low level of knowledge of sufferers and their families about the treatment and care of this disease is the most common trigger for treatment failure. This study aims to determine the effect of knowledge and motivation on adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication in tuberculosis sufferers at the Mojo Health Center, Surabaya City. The research design was cross-sectional. The sample was 19 respondents suffering from tuberculosis at the Mojo Health Center, Surabaya City. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, with the criteria being a maximum age of 70 years, not experiencing hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic complications, and not being multi-drug resistant. The dependent variables are knowledge and motivation, which are collected using a questionnaire. The independent variable, namely medication adherence, was collected using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. Data analysis used the Ordinal Regression test (α 0.05). The results showed that most tuberculosis patients (52.6%) had moderate knowledge, most (84.2%) had good motivation, and most (63.3%) had moderate medication adherence. Knowledge and motivation do not significantly affect adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication (p-values 0.582 and 0.788). Community health centers are expected to continue to increase the knowledge and motivation of tuberculosis sufferers through varied and continuous health education methods and media as an ongoing program involving families and the community as a support system for sufferers.
